According to mythology, Gujarat was known as 'Anart' in early historical times. The third of Manu's ten sons, Sharyati, became the king of Gujarat. Anart established the first capital of Gujarat "Kushasthali", now known as Dwarka. Before the name "Gujarat" of this region fell in the Solanki period, names like "Gurjar Desh", "Gujjaratta", "Gurjaratra" etc. were prevalent.
